* R O M E * / * R O M A *

After we saw the castles, we left for Rome that evening. We took an overnight train and as soon as I got on, I started feeling so sick due to motion sickness. I took a Dramamine and was out the ENTIRE ride. Matt took a benadryl and was out as well, although we did have a couple of "encounters" with theives on the train trip to Rome, but luckily, nothing was stolen. When we arrived in Rome, the first thing we did was check into the hotel. Then we decided that we should save some money and that we could just walk to most of the places we wanted to see! So, by foot, we basically saw Rome. The first thing we did was go to the Colosseum. Because it was Good Friday and the Pope was making his way to the Colosseum, a lot of the buildings were being closed due to security. We took a tour of the Colosseum and found some interesting facts out about it. After seeing this, we ate lunch. By this point, I was sooooo tired and moody. I was ready to go home-home. After lunch, we decided to go do some more sightseeing. By foot, we went to the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Circo Massimo, Trevi Fountain, and basically, anything else that was open in Rome. That evening, we had dinner at this yummy Italian place that was basically in someone’s basement. We had our first taste of REAL spaghetti though!

The next morning, we woke up early and headed to the Vatican City. We stood in a HUGE line, but finally got inside. We zoomed through the art museums and finally saw the Sistine Chapel, which was simply amazing. It was very crowded though. After that, we headed back to the Colosseum, because the first day it was raining but it had cleared up and Matt wanted to take some more pictures. We also got gelato at this AWESOME place called Giolitti. It’s a madhouse inside and basically, there is no line and the only way you really get served is by pushing yourself to the front of the counter. After that, we just headed back, ate a dinner at an Italian restaurant that felt pretty American. Then the next day, we left and headed back to America! That's our trip in a nutshell! :)
